COMMUNITY INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN CLEAN-UP AND MURAL PAINTING
(Echo Park, CA) The Greater Echo Park Elysian Neighborhood Council (GEPENC)
is partnering with L.A. Works for the 2011 Csar Chvez Day of Service to be
held Saturday March 26, 2011 at Echo Park Lake from 8:30am to 12:30pm.
Jose Sigala, GEPENC President said, "GEPENC invites corporate and community volunteers to come together with L.A. Works and help support the trash clean up and unique mentoring through mural projects honoring the life and legacy
of Csar Chvez."
Under the direction of expert muralists, LAUSD students and community
volunteers will work together to create five to ten murals with community
justice and human rights themes. Once completed, these painted on canvas
murals will be donated to local schools and libraries and displayed for the
enrichment of the greater Los Angeles Community.
The formal program will begin at 9:00am and include Special Guest Speakers:
Former State Senator Richard Polanco (ret.), who introduced legislation that
was signed into law by Governor Davis in 2000 that created the state Holiday
celebrated on Csar Chvez birthday March 31st, and Andres Chavez , the
youngest son of Socorro and Paul Chvez, Cesar Chavez's middle son, who was
raised in the tradition of the farm worker movement that his grandfather,
